On a crisp, frosty evening, Sunday 17th December, Dalkeith & Monktonhall Brass Band played a concert at Aberlady Church. This has become a very popular annual event. There was a large audience for what is always an occasion which the villagers very much look forward to.

Throughout the evening the band played a variety of, mainly, Christmas tunes interspersed with their Conductor, James Chamberlain telling a few festive jokes

As well as the band playing together there were also solo performances by individual band members at regular intervals. Sixteen year old Michael Fleming was the first soloist, and he gave a wonderful rendition of 'In The Bleak Midwinter' on the Tenor Horn. Other soloists were Karen Henderson with 'Away In A Manger' on Fluegal Horn -, Bill Baillie on Euphonium with 'Benedictus' and Paul Findlay played 'Frosty The Snowman' on Bass Trombone

Dalkeith & Monktonhall Brass Band are so good that nobody could possibly fall asleep while they are on but just to make sure, during Bill Baillie's solo piece, Percussionist Heather Henderson hit her drums with all her might which made a lot of people jump. During the interval a local lad, Michael ? sang a few songs while the band had a well earned rest

With such a excellent band, in the wonderful surroundings of our beautiful church, it was an evening enjoyed by everyone and a perfect start to the festive season.
